Studio Practice making button neck thing

Here is my very vague plan for creating some sort of neck collar inspired by the 16th century underpropper and contemporary jewelry.

I found a basket of buttons and just wanted to combine junk stuff with a more tradition regal shaped neck accessory- unfortunately things did not go to plan, my experiments with the wire were just frustrating - bending and wrapping it into place was taking too long and then to attach the buttons id have to cover it with fabric- not worth the effort

So I switched to cardboard- which was still sort of in keeping as some underpropper were made from card, but the shape was not- felt more ancient Egyptian
I added a layer of netting over the carboard and then hot glued the buttons. this meant that I could remove the uncomfortable cardboard but the glue and the netting kept the shape intact.

And this is where I should have left it. just the buttons - maybe distressed the edges of the netting.
sticking on the buttons took so long and so when it came time to add the second layer with all the pieces of broken jewelry I gave up- and just left the layer of pearls on the front

I dont think this was very sucessful- the hot glue looks messy and the pearls dont work with the brown buttons, I dont like how you can still see parts of the netting- I want it to have more a a distressed delicate look - I also think it loses the link to Elizabethan lace collars -
