Studio practice final

After I decided not to go down the cyanotype route-  I went back to my original method were I had been printing onto muslin, I tried a couple different iterations - for example the image on the right I tried isolating the print into different coloured layers and then printing them so that they would overlap. whereas with my earlier hanging the transparency of the muslin worked to create a eerie ghost like work - I needed this the images must be crisp so  switched to printing on cotton.                                       Once I had printed each design onto cotton I tried different layouts- I wanted to incorporate the blue from the cyanotype and so I highlighted some of the main features in blue dyed muslin - to give the eye something to follow throughout the piece.                                                                                                                            Overall I am most happy with the journey of this piece I have enjoyed experimenting and collecti

Studio Practice - mark making and cyanotype prep

Sketch book experiments- expanding on the set of gel plate prints I made in response to the Hermitage. I used oil pastel, acrylic paint - very repetitive actions trying to crave into the surface and scratch it away  - creating a overlapping distressed look.                                                                                                                                  I Gel plate printed cut up photocopied images taken from Ilkeston social history books- looking for images with a high contrast - and then once transferred onto the gel plate I printed them onto sheets of calico. This was more an exercise to generate ideas and marks - so when I went over the prints in acrylic, ink oil pastel I was very loose and expressive -  I also printed with lace with lace - referencing Ilkeston's ties to the frame knitting and lace making history- included a statute of the goddess Athena as she is the goddess of crafts and skilled peacetime pursuits- I wanted the paintings to want

Studio practice projecting image - fabric printing

Further developments projecting written words onto fabric - I printed images of the St Mary's church in Ilkeston- All Saints church- Morley church - images of the monuments that I has visited onto muslin - again the fabric that I had been using for my rubbings  Experimenting with hanging and pinning the material - and projecting more written words onto it, seeing how the light effects the image as it passes through the semi transparent material. I want to capture a fleeting sense of time and wear decay - weathered rags of hidden information lost to time                                                         Expanded on this idea - still printing on cream muslin- photo copying old images of Ilkeston that id sourced from old postcards and books I'd sourced from Ilkeston library  - rather than projecting the words I printed them-  I layered a piece of sizoflor ( image on the right) - it's web like surface soaked up ink - leaving this frazzled crackled texture on the surface
